The priest who helped heartbroken mum Jackie McNair cope with losing her son Sean said she never gave up hope of finding his body.Rathmullan priest Fr Martin Collum has been a pillar of strength and support for Jackie in recent days.Last night he told Donegaldaily.com that Jackie only went to mass to pray for her son – just hours before he was found around 3pm yesterday in Lough Swilly. “Jackie was at mass this morning and we prayed for her together that Sean would be found soon.“I am just so glad that her prayers have been answered and that she has Sean back to give him a proper burial. That’s all she ever wanted,” he said.Fr Collum has been with Jackie and her friends from the very outset of the tragic incident on July 16th when Sean disappeared while swimming off Rathmullan pier.He said the support from the local community in Rathmullan and across Donegal has been remarkable. “People took Jackie to heart because they knew the hurt she was going through and they just wanted to help.“Everyone has been so good in the local community and all they wanted for us was to find Sean.“Thankfully that has happened now and Jackie can make the proper arrangements for Sean now,” he said.Sean’s body was found yesterday afternoon around 3pm after a large-scale search around the waters and shores of the lough. The coastguard had admitted that they were planning on winding down the scale of the search in the coming days before Sean’s body was found. Almost 30 boats put to sea yesterday along with shoreline search crews. It was members of the Dundalk Sub-Aqua team who finally located Sean’s body. However Fr Collum said he wanted to pay tribute to all those who took part in the search in any way in recent days.Meanwhile funeral arrangements were last night being made by Jackie and her family. The Crabs have, more times than not, fallen behind before scoring any runs in most of their outings this season. On Wednesday night the visiting Seals Baseball Club, winners of Tuesday’s game against the Crabs, seized a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and — perhaps rightly so — the Crabs fans gathered at the Arcata Ball Park, witnesses to their team’s 1-6 start to its home schedule, braced themselves for another long night at the park.Perhaps they’ll think twice next time. With one …

The as yet unreleased iPhone app is called Breadcrumbs and it will give consumers access to information about grocery food items. The app will be able to scan barcodes and deliver a summary of the ingredients in a food item, along with when it was manufactured. That data is usually on the food label, but Breadcrumbs goes a step further – it can provide extra information such as product recall data. If a product has been recalled in the past, this app will tell the consumer all of the relevant details. Breadcrumbs is able to scan barcodes using the iPhone’s camera. The consumer simply points their iPhone at a food item and gets back relevant data. Other than product recall details, the information returned to the user is mostly the same as what’s on food labels – only it is pulled from the Web. IBM told ReadWriteWeb that when 4G becomes common place in mobile phones, then apps such as Breadcrumbs will become more powerful and be readily used on-the-fly by consumers when grocery shopping. The larger trend here is the convergence of smart phones with the Internet of Things (i.e. Internet-connected real world objects). Devices such as the iPhone essentially become sensor and RFID readers, which allow consumers to interact with real world objects in a much more detailed manner.Breadcrumbs is a glimpse of what we’ll see in the near future, when information will literally – finally – be at the consumer’s fingertips when they’re shopping for groceries or any other goods where data is plentiful. Up till now, data such as product recall information has largely been inaccessible to consumers – at least when at the grocery store. In the long term expect to see apps like Breadcrumbs provide data on where and when food items get consumed, together with how long they were on the shelf before being consumed. Apps like Breadcrumbs may even be able to tell who consumed the items (privacy advocates, start your engines!). These apps will also be useful in determining counterfeit items, for example when buying an expensive luxury good. The date that Breadcrumbs will be launched on iPhone has not yet been announced by IBM. richard macmanus
Go behind the scenes of AMC’s blockbuster zombie drama The Walking Dead and discover how they create the jaw-dropping (and face chewing) VFX.Top image via FanPopEver wonder how they create the realistic zombie VFX for The Walking Dead? FXGuide.com recently sat down with the show’s visual effects supervisors to get a behind-the-scenes look at how they produce their VFX magic. An intense amount of motion capture and modeling goes into creating the realistic zombie characters, all done by the skilled team at LA’s Stargate Studios. Pro visual effects artists use Maya for The Walking Dead’s modeling, rigging, and animation, while After Effects is used for compositing characters and effects into the final show. Lightwave, 3ds Max, and Photoshop are also used in the visual effects pipeline. The team relies heavily on blue and green screen to create digital set extensions and visual enhancements.A cool visual effects workflow hack: Stargate’s team has compiled a library of CG zombies that can be added to any scene. This cuts down the number of on-set extras that are needed, making shooting faster and scenes more versatile.Check out FXGuide’s full post for a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the post-production process of The Walking Dead, complete with interesting before-and-after VFX shots.
