first_imgJNBS Open League uniform parade set for Saturday The opening ceremony and uniform parade of the Netball Jamaica/JNBS Sunshine Open League netball competition will take place on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the Leila Robinson Courts, beginning at 1 p.m. sharp. Following the uniform parade, eight rounds of regular matches will be played. The defending champions of the Open League are Mico ‘B’, while the ‘B’ trophy was won by Molynes United ‘A’. Westchester were the Jo Wigman Rally winners, defeating Maxfield Park Community Club 8-5. This occasion marks the beginning of Netball Jamaica’s 2016 season and the 23rd year of sponsorship by Jamaica National Building Society. Italy, Poland awarded 2016 IAAF events MONACO (AP): Italy has been chosen to host the world race walking team championships, while Poland has been awarded the World Junior (Under-20) championships after Russia was stripped of both events which will be held this year. The International Association of Athletics Federations announced yesterday that Rome will host the team walking event in May after beating off competition from Mexico, Ukraine and Ecuador. Bydgoszcz in Poland was the only bidder for the Under-20 event which takes place in July. The transfer fee, reported by China’s official Xinhua News Agency to be around £25 million ($36 million), is a record for Chinese football.Chelsea are set to add Pato to their squad until the end of the season. Humble Lion climb to fourth in RSPL

first_imgHumble Lion tagged Cavalier 2-0 at Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon yesterday and moved into fourth spot in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL). Kevon Reid netted a brace in the 37th and 56th minutes to lift Humble Lion to 47 points, just one ahead of new boys, the UWI FC, as the teams battle for the fourth and final play-off spot in the semi-finals. Portmore United and UWI FC battled to a 1-1 draw at Juici Park in Clarendon. The Portmore team secured the $1 million incentive for the team that ends the preliminary stage on most points. With one set of games remaining in the preliminary stage, Portmore have an unassailable 61 points, ahead of Arnett Gardens (57) and Montego Bay United (56). All three are already assured of play-off spots. At the other end of the table, Waterhouse stayed alive after a 3-2 win against Reno at Waterhouse Stadium. Waterhouse earned three valuable points courtesy of goals by Kemar ‘Bushy’ Beckford in the 26th minute, Deandre Brown (37th) and Kenroy Howell (66th). Renario Downswell scored both goals for the losers in the 40th and 82nd minutes. Waterhouse remained at the bottom of the 12-team league on 31 points, behind Cavalier (33), Rivoli United (33), and Reno (34).
