TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS–Contract Awarded for RoadConstruction in HRM Motorists near the Lacewood Drive entrance to Bayers LakeIndustrial Park may soon get a smoother ride and faster traveltimes thanks to a rebuilt interchange at Lacewood Drive andHighway 102. A contract worth $1.3 million has been awarded to DexterConstruction. Work at Exit 2A of the interchange is underway andis to be completed later this year. The province and the HalifaxRegional Municipality are sharing the costs of the project. “This is another substantial investment in the road network ofthe metro region,” said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportationand Public Works. “We are working to provide the best roadnetwork possible for the travelling public.” As part of the work, Lacewood Drive will be widened and repavedat the interchange area and permanent traffic lights will beinstalled at the end of the off-ramps. The Department of Transportation and Public Works highwaysdivision manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in NovaScotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operatesseven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from districtoffices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
