Samarasinghe appointed to head delegation

The appointment of the high level delegation to attend the 22nd session of the Council comes as Sri Lanka prepares to face a barrage of allegations over human rights abuses at the Council. Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has been appointed at the last minute as the head of the Sri Lankan delegation to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in Geneva.Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Ravinatha Aryasinghe, who was earlier appointed to temporarily head the delegation, will still be part of the delegation under Samarasinghe. The Unites States (US) has already indicated it will submit a procedural resolution on Sri Lanka while the European Union has confirmed it will also support moves to push for reconciliation in Sri Lanka.
